Although Whisky Galore Online focuses on retail of Scotch Whisky, we do recommend that any bar should be stocked with a variety of liquors and spirits to suit anyones taste. Here is a list of classic beverages in alphabetical order that will help select a number of complementary additions as to cater for those that mix their whisky or enjoy a change. There are many liqueurs and bourbon whisky based products that are very similar in appearance and taste. Therefore this glossary will help in selecting a complementary range of alternative drinks.

  • Abisante A pale green liqueur similar in flavour to liquorice.
  • Advokaat A traditional Dutch liquor based on eggnog.
  • Ale A dark brown beer that is less gassy than larger that is pale gold in appearance.
  • Amaretto A traditional French liquor combining quinine, gentian, and oranges. A very sweet taste.
  • Amer Picon Almond flavoured liquor.
  • Anisette A liquorice flavoured liquor.
  • Armagnac Cognac based but distilled once.
  • Baileys Irish cream liqueur.
  • Banana Liqueur The name tells what the liquor tastes like, however also known as Creme de Banana.
  • Benedictine A liquor made by the French Benedictine monks.
  • Blackberry Liquor The name tells what the liquor tastes like.
  • Blended Whisky Different whiskies from Scotland that are combined in their casks often called marriage.
  • Blended Whiskey Different whiskies other than from Scotland that are combined in their casks.
  • Bourbon whiskey A Tennessee whiskey that is matured for at least two years in white oak casks and made mainly from corn.
  • Brandy Comes in many varieties, namely cherry, blackberry and apricot. It is essentially fermented juice of fruit.
  • Canadian whiskey Many made from rye, barley and corn.
  • Chambord A French liqueur with a very distinct sweet raspberry flavour.
  • Chambraise A French liqueur that has been made from wild strawberries.
  • Chartreuse French Carthusian monks created two types of yellow and green liqueurs.
  • Cherry Herring A cherry flavoured liqueur.
  • Cognac Fine brandy from the French Cognac region.
  • Cointreau An orange flavoured French liqueur made form caracao oranges.
  • Creme Liqueurs A sweet and creamy tasting liqueur that comes in many flavours, such as Creme de Cacao, (light and dark), crème de Menthe (white and green), etc.
  • Curacao An orange flavoured liqueur similar to Contreau but appears in blue or orange.
  • Drambuie A malt whiskey based liqueur that has a fairly sweet taste.
  • Dubonnet A sweet spicy French liqueur as aperitif.
  • Fraises Strawberry flavoured liqueur.
  • Frambosise Raspberry flavoured liqueur.
  • Frangelico Italian hazelnut flavoured liqueur.
  • Galliano Yellow-gold Italian liqueur made from various herbs and spices.
  • Gin Liquor distilled from rye and other grains and flavoured with juniper beerier.
  • Grand Marnier French orange flavoured, cognac-based liqueur.
  • Irish Mist Irish whiskey cream liqueur based with the additional flavour of oranges and honey.
  • Irish Whiskey The only whiskey to be distilled three times.
  • Kahlua Mexican coffee flavoured liqueur.
  • Kirschwasser Known also as Kirsch, a liqueur that has a black cherry flavour.
  • Kummel Colourless liqueur that is flavoured with caraway seeds.
  • Lillet A wine that is served as a Red or White aperitif.
  • Malibu Rum Coconut flavoured rum.
  • Maraschino Liqueur Almond and cherry flavoured liqueur.
  • Metaxa A Greek brandy essentially fermented fruit juice.
  • Ouzo A Greek aperitif, flavoured with liquorice.
  • Peanut Lolita Peanut flavoured liqueur.
  • Peppermint Schnapps Mint flavoured liqueur.
  • Pernod Another flavoured liquorice liqueur.
  • Rum Dark liqueur that has been distilled from fermented sugar cane or molasses.
  • Rye Whiskey Whiskey that has mainly mashed rye to form the bases of the fermentation process.
  • Sabra Is an Israeli orange and chocolate liqueur.
  • Sambuca Another Liquorice flavoured liqueur.
  • Scotch Whisky Made either from Grain or wheat, or a combination and distilled to form a single malt or mixed to form a blended whisky.
  • Sloe Gin Sloe berries that have been soaked in gin to give an additional flavour.
  • Southern Comfort A liqueur made from bourbon whiskey by combining peaches / peach liqueurs.
  • Straight Whiskey Made with only one type of barley malt.
  • Stega A very sweet Italian liqueur.
  • Tequila Mexican liquor distilled from the sap (fermented) of the mescal plant.
  • Tia Maria Coffee flavoured liqueur from Jamaica.
  • Triple Sec Orange flavoured liqueur.
  • Tuaca Italian brandy based liqueur with citrus flavourings.
  • Vandermint Dutch mint chocolate flavoured liqueur.
  • Vermouth An aperative wine that is either dry or sweet and flavoured with herbs.
  • Vodka Colourless liquor that is distilled from rye, wheat or grain.
  • Wild Turkey Bourbon whiskey based liqueur.
  • Wine Essentially fermented grape juice.
  • Yukan Jack Canadian whiskey based liqueur.
